Winona, Smith County, Tx – At the request of local authorities, a multi agency effort to remove animals from a suspected hoarding situation took place on the morning of March 24, 2022 . There were previous reports of approximately 150 dogs living on the property. A warrant was served and all 38 dogs that remained, were seized and removed to an off site location. It was found that the suspects were tipped off to the impending seizure and immediately started moving dogs off the property prior to the warrant being served. 

This was an ongoing investigation conducted by Constable Josh Joplin of Constable Pct 4 Smith County. The animals had untreated medical conditions and some were severely malnourished.

The collaborative effort to assist authorities includes Animal Investigation & Response (AIR) field and vet team, SPCA of East Texas, Smith County Animal Control & Shelter, The Humane Society of the United States and RedRover. The dogs were triaged by medical teams and prepared for transport and transfer, for their journey to Maryland for continued care and placement with HSUS’s placement partners. Placement: 100%
