2024: Paws, Claws, and Impact
2024 was a year of unwavering dedication and impact. From sifting through piles of debris and remains to navigating flooded shelters, our entire team responded to the call for over 300 animals in need. Each one received vital care and a safe journey to shelters where they could await their forever families. Our investigations and leaderships teams aided over 40 agencies, impacting over 1,500 animals.
March 18, 2024 – Largest Animal Seizure in Erath County
In March, AIR responded to a request from the Erath County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the largest animal seizure in the county’s history. Over 100 animals, including dogs, cats, farm animals, and reptiles, were rescued from horrific conditions—living without proper food, water, or shelter. AIR responders, alongside law enforcement, provided immediate veterinary care, rehabilitation, and secured safe placements for the animals, many of which are now on their way to loving homes.
May 2024 – Denton County Storm Response
In late May, severe storms and tornadoes hit North Texas, severely impacting the All American Dogs Shelter in Denton County. Initially focused on helping animals displaced by the storm, AIR quickly shifted efforts when one of the shelter’s buildings flooded, displacing even more animals.
Our medical team worked around the clock to prepare over 100 animals for out-of-state transport.
With the help of the ASPCA, we evacuated more than 100 animals, providing them with a fresh start and space for storm victims to be reunited with their families.
Also in 2024…
Often requests for assistance are less public and do not require a full response. Our Animal Cruelty Investigators and leadership team receive requests for assistance with ongoing investigations, establishing Emergency Temporary Shelters, transport, and guidance to proceed. In 2024, our team fielded over 40 instances involving over 2,000 animals, and 10 different species!
Looking Ahead to 2025
2024 was a year of incredible challenges and victories, made possible by your support. As we look to 2025, we remain committed to responding to the urgent needs of animals and continuing to provide them with the care, compassion, and opportunities they deserve. Thank you for standing with us and making a difference in the lives of so many animals in need.
Responses of 2024
March
Operation Boneyard
In early March, the Erath County Sheriff’s Office contacted AIR about an ongoing investigation. The evidence of this investigation led the Erath County Sheriff’s Office to obtain a seizure warrant. On March 18th, Animal Investigation & Response, Stephenville Police Department Animal Control, Erath County Humane Society and the Erath County Fire /EMS. assisted the ECSO in the seizure of over 100 animals found in unsafe and inhumane conditions.
May
Denton County Response
Severe weather in North Texas caused damage and destruction in Denton County. Our team helped the All American Dogs Shelter with animals impacted by tornadoes. Unfortunately, due to continued storms, one of the shelter’s buildings flooded, changing our response instantly.
June
City of Garland Response
As we were winding down our Denton County Disaster Response efforts, we deployed a second Disaster Team to start their work with the animals at Garland Animal Shelter & Adoption Center. The Garland area suffered a lot of storm damage which led to an influx of animals coming into their shelter. Our team provided daily care for hundreds of dogs waiting for adoption while others were still flooding in.
